How to affix a floating frame to a painting

Let’s add a frame!😊

Today I thought I would explain how to add a floating frame to a finished painting. (This should be a given, but make sure your painting is dry first!)

1. Get materials: drill, blanket or sheet, scrap cardboard, frame (I got one to fit a 1.5 inch deep stretched canvas), and hardware (off set clips either 1/2 or 1/4 inch deep, screws, wire, or a lot of stores sell hanging sets, like hobby lobby in the framing section.)
2. Use some strips of cardboard to get the painting centered in the floating frame so that it doesn’t move when you turn it over.
3. Flip it over on a soft surface or blanket so that the painting is protected!
4. Go ahead and loosely drill in the off set clips to the wooden frame of the painting.
5. Double check to make sure the painting is centered by taking the cardboard pieces out and then drill the screws in all the way if no adjustments need to be made.
6. If the frame has hardware for wire hanging , make sure it is not too close to the top so that the wire will not show once the painting is hanging on the wall. (At least a few inches.)
7. Slip the wire through the metal loops and clip it with wire cutters, leaving a few inches excess on either end. Next, twist each end onto itself until the excess is completely twisted on and so that the wire is tight. (It will give a little once it is up on the wall.)

That’s it! This adds a lovely finished look to your paintings. Right now I am including a black floating frame just like this one for my email subscribers with all my original paintings as a gift! (It will come fully affixed and wired for hanging for you!) Thank for reading, and please let me know if you have any questions! 🙏☺️❤️
