Overcomer
“Overcomer” 2024
Have you ever felt the weight of the storm beneath you, but the pull of freedom above? This scissortail flycatcher bird, is a symbol of resilience, soaring with wings spread wide, defying the darkness below.
This piece was born from this place, a place I know all too well— fighting resistance that felt like a dark and endless storm. For weeks, I struggled to get into the studio, to pick up my brushes and knives. But just like this bird, I refused to stay grounded.
The deep purple ground represents the heaviness of that season—the doubts, the fear of failure, and the endless questions of “what’s next?” But the open skies above remind me (and hopefully you) that the storm doesn’t last forever. There’s always light and freedom waiting if we just keep moving forward.
“Overcomer” is not just about this bird—it’s about me, and maybe it’s about you too. It’s a reminder that no matter how stuck or lost we feel, we are capable of rising, of flying, of creating again…
